On September 23, George Michael will kick off his first European tour in 15 years. He’ll perform 47 shows on the “25 Live” tour, which begins in Barcelona, Spain. He last toured in 1991 for his “Cover to Cover” album. George’s manager, Michael Lippman, says the outing will be a celebration of his 25 years in music. Fans can expect to hear songs from his years with Wham!, as well as those he recorded during his solo career.

It's been a quarter century since MTV debuted to shape what's hip, what's def, what's sweet, what's righteous, what's awesome.

We've been treated to the rise of Madonna, Phil Collins, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Robert Palmer, Whitney Houston, Boy George, George Michael, ZZ Top and Night Ranger. ...

If you were beyond the MTV generation when it debuted, it's created an awful, culture-robbing, people-degrading downward pull on societal norms that has left us with an oversexed, under-read, thoughtless and careless world with a short attention span.

If you were part of the first generation of MTV viewers, it gave memories of good videos and good music, but it's degenerated into something that denigrates the political process, can't be understood by adult minds, and, by the way, your own kids shouldn't watch.

And if you're a kid today, probably you think like those old guys from that group from the 1980s, Dire Straits.

Goss says being in a high-profile relationship comes with some
obligations. Goss and Michael are involved with HIV charities: In
Dallas, they�ve worked with the Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS and the
Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS. And they�re getting married.

�It will probably happen later this year. We had to postpone it because
of all the recent stuff with George�s arrest,� Goss says, referring to
Michael�s troubles in February, when he was arrested on suspicion of
possessing drugs after being found slumped at the wheel of a car in
central London.

That incident was followed by another sloppy behind-the-wheel episode in
April, when Michael crashed into three parked cars and just drove off.
This string of careless driving could have spelled a much worse tabloid
hell for the couple. During the mess, Goss says he assumed a
first-lady-like role: He encouraged his partner to admit fault and just
take full responsibility. Smart decision.

Both Goss and Michael have been refreshingly candid about their
relationship and personal lives. Goss has discussed his own substance
abuse and his mother�s addictions. And last year, in an interview with
the Dallas Morning News, Goss talked about his sense of overwhelming
guilt after his father, who died of a stroke, tried to commit suicide in
2003 by shooting himself.

And while the couple might be getting hitched, they�re not trying to
present some super-idealized public image. In interviews, Michael has
repeatedly said that he and Goss are not monogamous.

�To be perfectly honest with you, neither George nor I really believe in
marriage as a concept. But we feel like we need to get married to lead
by example,� Goss says. �There was no big proposal. I found out we were
getting married after George had mentioned it in an interview in Japan.�

Goss says he�s leaving Dallas for a couple of months. But he and Michael
recently bought a house in Highland Park. And coincidentally, the �First
Ladies� exhibit might end up hitting closer to home �The Bushes are
moving back to Highland Park,� Goss says. �They�re actually looking to
build a house across the street from where George and I had just
bought.�

Prompted by the ridiculous, homophobic stories in the press on Sunday, and especially today about his long-term partner Kenny Goss, singer George Michael phoned in today to the Richard and Judy show on Channel 4 in the UK, to set the record straight. If you don’t want to read all the words below, the bottom line is: he didn’t encounter this man on Hampstead Heath; the wedding isn’t off; it would be too difficult to sue the papers for libel over this – however he may try to get the two photographers who’ve been following him around on harassment charges; and there’s one more UK date on the tour to be announced around Christmas.

Oh yes, and his tenth anniversary present to Kenny cost him a million pounds. He wouldn’t say what it is – but sounds like it’s a painting to me. Lucky Kenny!

George Michael's forthcoming 25 Live tour - his first in 15 years - has been proved to be a smash already, with 240,000 tickets snapped up in just two hours by eager punters. The tour has now been expanded to 47 dates and more than 600,000 tickets to the shows have been sold. Still, there's no sign of Oz getting the tour, so fans have taken matters into their own hands. Sign the petition now!

George's first tour in 15 years, the 25 Live Tour, is in support of his forthcoming career retrospective, 25, and a celebration of George's 25 year career in the music business.
Since going on sale in April, the tour has been expanded to 47 dates due to overwhelming demand, and has sold nearly 600,000 tickets, 240,000 of those snapped up in the first two hours alone!

The phenomenal enthusiasm to see George's tour has led many to speculate he will take the tour to America as well.

But there's still no sign of the 25 Live Tour being brought to Australia, a place where he has spent much time, and enjoyed similar success to that in Europe with a string of Top 10 singles and albums, including his most recent album 'Patience', which debuted #2 on the charts here.

Australian fans aren't taking the matter lying down. In a bid to make sure George and the 25 Live Tour reach Australia, an online petition has been started by a group of die-hard fans and names are swelling by the hour.

"Australia needs, wants and must have George Michael's 25 Live Tour!" it reads.

"George Michael is a music legend and his popularity in Australia has NEVER waivered. Please tour Australia George - we need YOU!!!" says one fan.

If the tour makes it to Australia, it will be the first time in nearly 20 years that George has played here; his last time shows were in 1988 for the world Faith Tour.

The show's set-list is said to be a career retrospective, including hits from Wham! and George's solo career. And with hits including 'Amazing', 'Faith', 'Club Tropicana', 'Last Christmas', 'Flawless', 'Freedom 90', 'Father Figure', 'Careless Whisper', 'I Want Your Sex', 'Young Guns', 'Bad Boys' as well as the new single 'An Easier Affair' to look forward to, it's no wonder the 25 Live Tour is shaping up as one of the biggest of the year.

TROUBLED MICHAEL ANNOUNCES TOUR

Former WHAM! star GEORGE MICHAEL has unveiled plans for a greatest hits tour, just days after his high-profile three-car smash in London (16APR06). It will be the singer's first tour in 15 years, and comes amid huge scrutiny of his troubled professional and personal life. Earlier this week (begs17APR06) Michael was warned by a former singing partner that his alleged addiction to cannabis could kill him. TOBY BOURKE, who recorded with Michael in the 1990s on tracks including WALTZ AWAY DREAMING, claimed the drug had already destroyed the star's career - and could have a similar effect on his personal life. The 25 LIVE tour kicks off with dates in Spain from 27 September (06) and will conclude in the UK in December (06). A statement from the singer's management promises, "A celebration of his 25-year career in music, a career that has brought us some of the world's most loved songs and marked Michael out as one of the globe's brightest stars." George Michael will combine the 50 concerts with the release of a greatest hits album, containing four new tracks.

The American Film Institute will hold its fifth music documentary series in Los Angeles starting April 5. Held for six consecutive Wednesdays, this year's festival kicks off with "Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out," Police drummer Stewart Copeland's first-person account of his years in one of the world's biggest bands.

It will be followed by "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" (April 12); "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" (April 19); "loudQuietloud: A Film About the Pixies" (April 26); "George Michael -- A Different Story" (May 3); and "Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man" (May 10).

The police officer who arrested GEORGE MICHAEL in a Los Angeles public toilet in 1998 is thrilled the singer was recently apprehended on suspicion of possessing Class C drugs. Detective MARCELO RODRIGUEZ, who charged the FAITH singer with lewd behaviour eight years ago, insists Michael's latest scandal is "karma". The 42-year-old was found slumped at the wheel of his car in central London last month (FEB06) before being arrested, and later released on bail. He must return to a London police station later this month (MAR06) when the substances have been analysed. In the UK, Clas s C drugs is a group which includes cannabis, tranquillisers and certain painkillers. Rodriguez previously filed unsuccessfully for $10 million (GBP5.8 million) in damages on grounds of mental distress, arguing that the star's video to his 1998 single OUTSIDE, which mocked his toilet arrest, accused him of entrapment. Rodriguez says, "Karma has caught up with him. He is being punished for what he did to me. "I think this is justice. I hope the London cop who arrested him doesn't suffer the vilification I did."

Sir Elton John, Bono, George Michael, Sting, Mary J Blige, Barbra Streisand and John Legend will also appear on an album celebrating the star's big day.

The crooner, whose hits include I Left My Heart in San Francisco, first hit the charts in the 50s and won a Grammy last month for his latest album.

Bennett turns 80 in August and the album will be r eleased in September.

The singer recently signed a deal with record company Sony BMG, which described him as "one of the most legendary performers of all time".

Bennett is currently on a tour of the US, which takes in Florida, California, New Jersey and Texas.

BENNETT TO TEAM UP WITH STARS ON BIRTHDAY ALBUM

Veteran crooner TONY BENNETT will duet with SIR PAUL McCARTNEY, BONO and SIR ELTON JOHN on his upcoming 80th birthday album.

The I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO will also be joined by GEORGE MICHAEL, STING, BARBRA STREISAND, MARY J BLIGE and JOHN LEGEND on a collection of duets to be released in September (06), shortly after he turns 80.

Bennett won the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album Grammy Award earlier this month (FEB06) for THE ART OF ROMANCE, his most recent recording.
